Mastinell

Mastinell is much more than a winery. It is an oenological center that offers multiple experiences to the people who visit it, which has made it a place of reference in the region.

Mastinell is located in Vilafranca del Penedès, the capital of Alt Penedès, an area with important wine cultivation since Phoenician times and the first place in Catalonia where the winemaking process was industrialized. The city is located just 60 km from Barcelona, capital of modernism and Mediterranean par excellence. The sinuous forms and techniques of its world-renowned architecture inspired us to create our wine tourism complex.

The sea, the sun and the Mediterranean passion have also been a source of inspiration in the elaboration of our cavas and wines, created to be enjoyed.

Origin

Founded in 1980 in the heart of the Penedés Denomination of Origin (D.O) region, Mastinell sprang to life as a small winery overflowing with family Mediterranean spirit.

Mastinell occupies a privileged spot at the feet of Sant Pau hill. Its shelter lets us lovingly work the land upon which it stands, helping to ensure the quality of our wines and cavas. Under Sau Pau’s watchful gaze, we have won many national and international awards over 40 years, making wine you’ll fall in love with, sip after sip.

These international awards include gold medals at the Concours Mondial des Vins de Bruxelles (Belgium), silver medals at Decanter (U.K.) and Mondiale du Rosé (France), and bronze medals at the Wine & Spirit Competition (U.K.) and Challenge International (Hong Kong).

Hotel

Much more than a winery, Mastinell is an authentic wine experience.

It was in 2005 we kickstarted our plan to integrate winemaking with wine tourism (oenotourism). The aim was to promote the Penedés region via a five-star hotel, stimulating all five senses while you enjoy our cavas and wines.

The building took eight years of loving creation and, in 2013, we unveiled Cava & Hotel Mastinell. The hotel’s unique design depicts a meandering row of cava bottles, all topped by a rippled roof that pays homage to Antoni Gaudí’s trencadís abstract mosaics technique. Accompanying it is the gastronomic delight, our En Rima restaurant. This understatedly opulent space peacefully overlooks our vineyards, a place in which where one can relish wine tourism and incredible food.

The building’s visual impact comes with environmentally-friendly practices baked in, including solar panels, rainwater collection tanks, natural ventilation, and a biomass water heater. Details like LED lighting and low environmental impact furniture complete its green credentials. Cava & Hotel Mastinell is undoubtedly one of the Barcelona area’s most precious jewels, promoting sumptuous wine tourism that respects history and place.
